Day No.3 has finally arrived of the Red , White and Blue Blog Hop with our host
Jane and our inspiration
Madamme Samm . I was quick to sign up when I read the post as I love the red ,white and blue combination so my little old head was spinning with ideas and here is what I came up with . I had a certain color red that I wanted to use but my stash was limited so I had to plan carefully .
For some reason these colors make me think of summer and when I think of summer I think of whirligigs and pinwheels , this block is called Autumn and is by Minick and Simpson for Moda Fabrics .
This is of course a double pinwheel , a little simple but I think the quilting in the red would make it lovely.'
Still in the pinwheel category is this next block .
This one resulted from several extra triangles being cut and I think it is a fun block.
How about a whirligig in a little summery combination :-)
This block as well as the above block came from a calendar of quilt blocks and this one is part of the Happy Days Quilt but guess what, it is called the Depression block , go figure , however I like the movement in this one.
My final block is called Carrie Nation and is from the book Around the Block with Judy Hopkins , I was really running out of both the blue and the red by this time .
Here are all six blocks together on my old fence door .
I love the old iron hinges on this door and thought it might be the perfect place to take some photos . I haven't decided what to do with these blocks yet , any suggestions ? I bet you are wondering how I kept these blocks on the gate , well a little removable adhesive putty did the trick ;-)
A last minute addition is this block which I will make into a mug rug , just perfect for the hot days of summer , anyone for a glass of lemonade or perhaps a glass of ice tea ? You can find the pattern

Now no Blog Hop would be complete without a giveaway so I took some time on Saturday to make this market tote , being summer and all and the number of farmers markets around I thought a tote just might be handy . Whooo Hoo! I'm the 1st commenter. That is what happens when one wakes up at 5am. Great blocks, all of them. They would be terrific in a table runner or wall hanging. In the summer I love the food the best. And all the sunshine and warmth (I loathe winter). Thanks for the chance to win.

ReplyDeleteI suppose I should say that my favorite time of summer is the 4th of July, because my second child was born on that day. Actually, though, my favorite part is the end. I don't like hot weather - and it gets very hot in TX. The bag is really cute and I can always use a market tote!

They are all so beautiful and look so great on that old fence door! The little glass of tea is just too cute. You did an amazing job on all of them! My favorite thing about summer is watching my grandsons swim in the pool. I love their laughter. :O)

I love the iron hinge door as a back drop for your blocks. I notice that a lot of blogers are useing creative back drop to show off ther blocks. We it is my turn I think I will be using my neighbors yard. The nice thing about summer it going to the beach to cool off.

ReplyDeleteThe double pinwheel is my favourite. I love the colour combinations in it. I also love your photo of the six of them on the barn door. They look fantastic together. If they were mine I would make them up into a hot pad and use it lots to show them off. My favourite part of summer is having a garden. We haven't had much sun this summer and my garden is growing slowly.

Since I live in Alabama I can be at the white sandy beaches of the gulf in 3 and 1/2 hours so I love to go the beach several times a year. It is so relaxing and the water and sand are beautiful. Thanks rebathered@charter.net

Your blocks are great. I love the colors..the patterns are great on the barn door. I love making pinwheels (You will see on July 12th). I agree--the mini is perfect for a cold glass of lemonade.

Love lemonade. I love the fence door perfect background for great blocks. Thank you for the giveaway if chosen we have farmer's markets here - great to support the producers of our daily fare. So in summer go to gardens where can pick you own fruit - especially cherries (USA cherries are here) & strawberries. The bag would match!
