One Flower Wednesday

Only two blooms to report this week , it was a busy week and very little stitching got done . I've been cleaning and rearranging my sewing room and it sure looks a lot better than it did a few days ago , amazing how much mess a person can make when trying to rearrange but it was all worth the effort in the end . Hope your garden is blooming well this week ;-)

Yard Sale Finds

You may not be aware of the fact I love to find a bargain and yard sales are one of  the best places to do just that .So..... on Sat . morning I knew that an elderly couple up our road were moving into an apartment from their small farm and they advertised a yard sale in the local news so off I went early in the am . and here is what I found . This beautiful portrait of a girl at the wash basin , the towel is frayed and it just caught my eye immediately and I asked them to hold onto  it for me as I browsed even further . The caption on the bottom says "Fresh as a Daisy " It was very difficult to take a photo of this because of the glare from the glass .She came home with me for the low price of , are you ready $5 , that's right and in this incredible frame as well .She now hangs above our antique bathtub , an appropriate place I thought ;-)

My next find was a really nice little wooden box and when I opened it  , it was full with embroidery threads of every color , oh wow was my response so I inquired as to the price and again it was just $5 ,Want to see what it looks like , I thought so , here it is .Now I will show you what is inside , lots of threads and also this neat old pamphlet of all the embroidery stitches , this will be very helpful  . I also purchased a little side table which will be perfect for beside the chair where I usually do my stitching and it has a great little shelf below for my books and that was just $20 so for a total of $30  I think I did really well . What do you think??

Crazy Quilting Friday

This is my second crazy block , it isn't a whole lot different than the first as you can see in the second picture . I like making these and even finished off the smaller pieces left over to make a needle case , will show a picture of that when I have it finished , I want to add a few pockets to the inside for my needles , scissors etc . It really makes a person feel good when they make something pretty using what otherwise might head for the trash can . Happy Stitching and thanks for stopping by.

I'm on a roll

I just completed yet another apron , youknow how it is when you 're searching through your stash for that perfect piece of fabric for a project and you come across another fabric and the creative juices start to flow , well that is what happened to me when looking for fabric for the vintage pattern. This fabric has been in my stash for who knows how long and it seemed so perfect for an apron I just had to make it . Do I have any more aprons in the works , no that is enough of that ;-) Time to move onto something else now . It is about time to think of my crazy block for tomorrow .
Thanks for stopping by.

It's Wednesday Again !

Good morning and Happy One Flower Wednesday , on this bright sunny ,windy morning I have three flowers blooming in my garden , I had hoped for more but at least I am staying consistent I guess .I now need to get busy and cut more hexies as this put a huge dent in the ones I had prepared .Happy Gardening everyone .Oh is there anyone out there that can give me advice on my poor rose bush , if you look closely at the leaves they don't look all that healthy ,something is really doing a number on them . Thanks for stopping by .

Another apron

When I started the vintage apron I was looking through my stash and came across a couple of pieces of reproduction prints but there was only 1meter of each which was not enough for the vintage pattern but was just enough for this pattern called Four Corners Apron by Vanilla House Designs, I have made a few of these before and they are really quite neat and simple to make so since I was in the apron sewing mood ;- ) I decided to go ahead and cut it out and voila , here it is . I added the rickrack as the accent fabric was a little too close in color and just sort of melted into the apron front , this I think helped plus I just like rick rack , I have a few packages from my aunt some with a price tag of just $.25 so I really like to use it when ever I can .Aunt Mary made a lot of aprons in her life time , most for the church tea and sales . She also made some adorable cloth dolls for those sales and I am fortunate to have two of them in my possession .Hope you are having a nice day .

Crazy Quilting Friday

I joined the Crazy Quilting Friday group over at Quilting Fiesta blog and here is my first crazy quilt block , I learned a few things from this , make sure your piece is large enough , and put that lace in before you add another piece of fabric , I am sure that would be so much easier than doing it after the fact . It was fun to do though and I can see this being a great way to use up some of those scraps that seem to always be in my sewing room ;-0
If you would like to join in on the fun just head on over to here and sign up , I think Betsy will be happy to have you join this little group and  ,I'm sure you will love making these fun blocks and using those stitches we all never use on our machines , or at least I seldom use .
Happy Stitching !Sheila

Vintage Apron

Here you have it the vintage apron is now completed . It is a rather large apron and is meant to fit almost anyone I believe just by adjusting the tie around the waist , the shoulders actually sit lower almost like sleeves with a broad neckline , it would have been nice to have some reproduction prints to make this but the fabric I chose is definetly not new , I bought it some time ago at a country auction , the lady had obviously sewn a lot as there was boxes and boxes of fabric ,you probably can't see the fabric well , it has strawberries on it so I figured it was suitable for an apron . As you can see from an earlier post this is a Butterick pattern No. 8336 and I believe Ginger is correct that it is likely a 1957 -58 .Thanks for googling that for me Ginger .

Wednesdays flowers on Thursday

In the first photo you will see three flowers , yesterday I took a class on making these folded flowers at our quilt guild , what did I learn , well I learned you need more fingers , it was very difficult to manipulate the folding , pressing and refolding all at the same time ,however I was determined to finish the flowers , we made two of the hexagon shape and I could only stay long enough to make one of the eight sided flower ,I beleive they also tried a twelve sided but I didn't see one completed . It was a fun class and a great way to learn a little extra patience ;-)
I did manage to make three flowers this week and now I have a total of 25 flowers so my garden is growing , not in leaps and bounds but still growing . I haven't yet decided how I will put them all together but I will think about that tomorrow ;-) I hope everyone's garden is blooming well .
Happy Gardening !

Vintage Apron Pattern

I thought I would share this vintage pattern I picked up at that yard sale as well , it was in a box with lots of patterns at one price for the whole lot but the rest of the patterns didn't interest me at all so I asked if I could buy just this one and again it was the low price of $.25 . I was excited to find this as I love these old aprons and I plan on making a few as gifts . The first one I want to make is the one in the upper right hand corner that they describe as a "Coverall apron with carry-all pockets ". As you can see the original price was just $.35 much cheaper than todays patterns .I wonder what year this is ??

One Flower Wednesday

Can you believe it is Wednesday again , where does the time go , oh I forgot I am still looking for that . I did manage to get four flowers made this week . If you could see my stash you would know I am not exactly short on fabric but the pink , blue and purple flowers are all made from one piece of fabric , a rather colorful fabric with various colors of hydrangeas on it and I picked it up at a yard sale just because I thought it would be perfect for these hexagons ,the good news is it only cost me $.25 so I didn't break the bank and a little more fabric in my stash can't be a bad thing can it ?? Happy gardening ;-)

June Jeans Challenge

I love a challenge and when I saw Jenny was having a challenge for June using an old pair of jeans I just had to jump in and give it a try .Well I had a pair of overalls that I used for gardening that had seen better days and were really rather large on me anyway so I started first off removing the pockets , the large one on the bib and one of the back pockets .I then opened up the legs and once I had them cut I was pondering what to do next ,there was quite a large piece of fabric in the top of those legs so I cut a junk off and then went in search of something I thought suitable for a lining to jazz it up a little , denim on its own can be rather boring so I found this denim stripe and ta da , here is what I came up with a great sized tote with a striped lining and I left a little of the lining showing on the top of the bag also to give it a little more pizzaz and I added a ragged flower in denim with a white and red button , what do you think ?Oh yeah the straps are from the straps of the jeans so I didn't even need to piece those ,and the inside pocket is the pocket from the bib ,it couldn't have been easier , neat huh !
